I admit it. I was glad to see Steve Jobs up on stage at the Apple event in San Francisco yesterday. Of course the story was covered in all the online tech news...The SVDaily.com had a nice little piece about it this morning; I read another in this morning's San Francisco Chronicle (yes I still subscribe) with my first cups of coffee today.
It's not that I am an Apple fangrrl. But it's hard not to respect someone who has had such a direct and personal hand in so many of the evolutions of products that really have transformed how people engage with the digital age. So regardless of the other stories and speculations, I just wanted to say well done, thanks and welcome back.
Tonight's #Lrnchat is about mentoring in the workplace, so in the spirit of sharing with the young members of the Learning Technology tribe, here is a video that should speak to any one of us trying to rock our respective worlds - Steve Jobs announcing the Macintosh computer at the Fall, 1983 Apple customer event (obviously not yet named Macworld). It's 6 min long - IMHO worth watching the whole thing. Parenthetically, the commercial you see featured in this video was shown publicly one time - during the 1984 Super Bowl.
You will get a real sense of just how far learning technologists have come, and get a far better sense of just how much this guy has been a part of bringing us along for the ride of a lifetime. Hopefully it will also serve to remind any one of us who wants to make the world a better place that we really can.
